Who We Are:
We are a group of medical professionals at the University of California, San Francisco, who recognize gun violence – primarily handgun violence, as a healthcare epidemic. The number of young men and women who are killed and permanently disabled by bullets in this country now dwarfs the number killed by all infectious diseases and cancers combined. This carnage is more than an abstract idea to those of us who witness the immediate and long-term consequences of bullets in bodies, like these:
Piano student, 10, partially paralyzed after shooting in Oakland
We Lost Our Daughter to a Mass Shooter and Now Owe $203,000 to His Ammo Dealer
Family of Montgomery teen paralyzed by stray bullet prays for miracle

What We Do:
Among other things, we provide these bumper stickers without charge to whoever would like one. If you would like a bumper sticker, please visit the "Request a Bumper Sticker" page and state which one you would like. We do not accept any donations. Obviously, bumper stickers alone will not fix this problem but part of what is needed is a nationwide awareness that:
1) Gun violence is a true health epidemic.
2) It can be stopped.
We hope that these public messages help in this regard.

What about the Second Amendment?
It is illegal in the U.S. to possess machine guns, RPGs, land mines, flamethrowers, bazookas, and many other “arms”, for obvious reasons, despite the Second Amendment. We submit that handguns and assault rifles also belong in this category.
But isn’t this a hopeless cause?
Perhaps, but see Australia
Speaking of Australia, see this link for an Australian comic's funny but blisteringly accurate assessment of the U.S. gun violence epidemic and the psychology that has paralyzed any rational response to it.

But can you even define “assault rifle?”
Just keep it simple. We submit that any weapon capable of firing more than 6 rounds per minute has no place in civilian life.
What about hunting, or protecting my home and family?
Hunting rifles and shotguns are explicitly not targeted by this campaign. In fact, a short barrel shotgun is probably the most effective firearm available for home defense.
